Bhubaneswar, Aug. 31 (UDN): Senior Odisha-cadre IPS officer Shefeen Ahamed K, who was serving as Inspector General of Police in the CID-Crime Branch, passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was 2003-batch IPS officer.

A native of Kerala, Ahamed had reportedly been battling cancer. He had been serving in the Odisha Police Crime Branch as an Inspector General since July 2023.

Distinguished career in Odisha Police

An engineering graduate, Shefeen Ahamed joined the Indian Police Service in 2003 and was allotted the Odisha cadre. During his career, he also served in Kerala on inter-cadre deputation, including as Superintendent of Police (Rural), Thiruvananthapuram.

He was particularly recognised for his work in cyber crime investigation and the CID-Crime Branch. His service earned him several honours and medals during his career.

CM Mohan Majhi expresses grief

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the officer’s demise and remembered his contribution to the state police.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said Ahamed’s dedicated service to Odisha and the Odisha Police would always be remembered. He also conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family, colleagues and loved ones.

Deputy CM Singh Deo pays tribute

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo also mourned the death of the senior IPS officer.

Singh Deo remembered Ahamed for his dedication and distinguished service to the state and the Odisha Police, and extended condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.

The untimely death of the senior officer has left members of the Odisha Police and the wider administrative fraternity mourning his loss.
