Bhubaneswar, Aug. 17 (UDN): Eight vehicles were gutted after a fire broke out at a garage in Anand Vihar near Nakagate in Bhubaneswar during the early hours of Monday.

According to preliminary information, the fire reportedly started while an electric vehicle was being charged inside the garage. A short circuit is suspected to have triggered the blaze, which quickly spread to other vehicles parked nearby.

Five EVs Among Vehicles Destroyed

The garage reportedly housed five electric vehicles, one CNG-powered car and two petrol vehicles. All eight vehicles were severely damaged in the fire.

Soon after the incident was reported, a team from the Tamando Fire Services reached the spot and launched firefighting operations.

Due to the intensity of the blaze, firefighters used a foam compound along with other firefighting measures to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding areas.

After sustained efforts, the fire was brought under control.

No Casualties Reported

No casualties have been reported in connection with the incident so far. However, the fire caused extensive damage to the vehicles, and the exact financial loss is yet to be assessed.

Fire officials are expected to conduct a detailed inspection of the site to determine the precise cause of the blaze. The incident has also highlighted the need for proper safety precautions while charging electric vehicles, particularly inside enclosed premises.
