Bhubaneswar, July 13 (UDN): A Class 11 student lost his life after falling from the 10th floor of a residential apartment in Bhubaneswar’s Chandrasekharpur area on Monday. Police believe the teenager may have been trying to escape after visiting a female classmate at her home.
The incident occurred at Jalvayu Tower, where the student had reportedly gone to meet his classmate while she was alone at home. According to preliminary findings, the situation changed unexpectedly when the girl’s mother returned home earlier than anticipated after a half-day shift.
Investigators said the boy allegedly took shelter inside the apartment’s bathroom and locked the door from the inside. Police suspect that, in an attempt to avoid being seen, he later tried to climb out through the bathroom window and descend using water pipes located in the service duct outside the building.
During the attempt, the teenager is believed to have lost his footing and fallen from the upper floors. His school bag was later found hanging from a pipe near the ninth floor, lending support to the preliminary sequence of events reconstructed by investigators.
The student was rushed for medical examination after the fall, and his body has been sent to Capital Hospital for a post-mortem.
A forensic team inspected the scene, while CCTV footage from the apartment complex is being examined to establish the exact chain of events. Police have also questioned members of the girl’s family as part of the ongoing investigation.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagmohan Meena said the initial investigation indicates that the incident may have been triggered by panic after the girl’s mother unexpectedly returned home. However, he stressed that the inquiry is still in its early stages.
An unnatural death case has been registered, and police said all possible angles, including accidental death and any possibility of foul play, are being examined before drawing any final conclusions.
The deceased student’s family has not issued any public statement so far.
