Sahu, a resident of Gopabandhupali in Rourkela, has been working as a coolie at Rourkela railway station since 2013. His earnings from carrying passengers’ luggage have helped support his family and fund the education of his two sons.

Sahu himself had to give up his studies because of financial constraints. After completing Plus Two in Commerce from Rourkela Evening College, he enrolled in a Plus Three course but was forced to discontinue his studies during the second year to support his family.

He initially took up various small jobs to make ends meet. However, with the responsibility of running his household becoming increasingly difficult, he eventually started working as a coolie at the railway station.

Despite the financial challenges, Sahu remained determined to provide his sons with better educational opportunities. A major milestone came when both his sons secured admission to NIT Rourkela.

Their achievement has brought immense happiness and pride to the family. While his sons have now begun their journey at one of Odisha’s premier technical institutions, Sahu continues his work at the railway station.

Sahu hopes that his sons will successfully complete their studies and fulfil their ambition of becoming engineers.

The story of the family stands as an example of how perseverance, sacrifice and a parent’s determination can help children overcome financial hardships and pursue their dreams.
