UK Envoy, Odisha Deputy CM Discuss Trade, Investment and Strategic Partnership

Bhubaneswar, July 23 (UDN): Strengthening economic ties and exploring new avenues of collaboration between the United Kingdom and Odisha were at the centre of discussions during a meeting between British Deputy High Commissioner for East and Northeast India, Andrew Fleming, and Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

The meeting, held at Lok Seva Bhavan, focused on expanding bilateral cooperation across several priority sectors, including energy, infrastructure, skill development, critical minerals, and sports. Both sides deliberated on ways to boost trade and investment while fostering long-term partnerships that support sustainable economic growth.

During the interaction, Andrew Fleming noted that it was his 18th visit to Odisha and praised the state’s rapid development, rich cultural heritage, and growing economic potential. He expressed confidence that the UK and Odisha could further strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo highlighted Odisha’s commitment to creating a globally competitive investment ecosystem and emphasized that international partnerships would play a key role in realizing the state’s vision of ‘Viksit Odisha’. The two leaders also exchanged views on enhancing people-to-people connections and expanding cooperation in education, culture, and trade.

The meeting reflects the UK government’s continued engagement with Odisha and its intent to deepen collaboration across economic, educational, and cultural sectors.

As a gesture of goodwill, Singh Deo presented Fleming with ‘The Orissan’, a book that showcases Odisha’s rich cultural identity, maritime history, spiritual traditions, and culinary heritage, offering a glimpse into the state’s vibrant legacy.
