Two Migrant Workers from Odisha’s Rayagada Die in Telangana and Kerala on Same Day

Rayagada, Oct 15 (UDN): Grief has engulfed two villages in Odisha’s Rayagada district after two migrant workers from Kashipur block died in separate incidents in Telangana and Kerala on the same day, leaving their families devastated.

The deceased have been identified as Jayaram Majhi of Adajal village and Ranjit Naik of Nuagaon village under Maikancha Gram Panchayat. Both had travelled outside Odisha in search of employment to support their families.

According to reports, Jayaram Majhi had been working as a migrant labourer in Secunderabad, Telangana, for the past three months. He reportedly died at the scene following an accident. Further details about the circumstances of the incident were not immediately available.

In a separate incident, Ranjit Naik, who was employed at a company in Kerala, fell seriously ill and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. He later died while undergoing treatment.

Reports said Ranjit’s family deposited Rs 1 lakh at the hospital before his body was transported to his native village by ambulance.

The deaths have cast a pall of gloom over Adajal and Nuagaon, with relatives and villagers mourning the loss of the two workers. The families are struggling to cope with the sudden deaths of their loved ones, who had reportedly been the primary breadwinners of their respective households.

The twin tragedies have once again drawn attention to the hardships faced by migrant workers from rural areas of Odisha who travel to other states in search of livelihoods. For families dependent on income earned outside their home districts, such unexpected losses bring both emotional distress and financial uncertainty.

As the two villages mourn their losses, the families are left to deal with the painful aftermath of the incidents and the challenges of rebuilding their lives without their primary sources of income.
