Balasore, Sept. 21 (UDN): Two elderly women, who were reportedly sisters-in-law, were killed after being struck by a moving train near Basta railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Rukchand Marandi of Baunsatopha village and her sister-in-law, who was reportedly a resident of Parulia village.

Tragedy While Returning From Market

According to preliminary reports, the two women had gone to Basta market earlier in the day. While returning home, they reportedly attempted to cross the railway tracks near the station.

At that moment, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express approached the area and hit the two women. They died at the spot due to the impact.

Police Begin Probe

Following information about the accident, police reached the location and recovered the bodies.

The bodies were subsequently taken for necessary procedures as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are examining the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy and gathering further information about the accident.
