Koraput, July 24 (UDN): Reports of a suspected tiger movement have triggered anxiety among residents of several villages in Odisha’s Koraput district after paw-like footprints were found near forest areas along the Kotpad-Kundura border.

The discovery has raised concerns among villagers living close to the forest, while several unverified videos claiming to show the presence of a tiger have gone viral on social media, adding to the apprehension.

According to local sources, forest personnel recently noticed suspected pugmarks in an agricultural field adjoining the Atigaon forest in the Kundura region during a routine patrol. The footprints have prompted the Forest Department to intensify surveillance in the area.

Villagers from Katriguda, Nuaguda and Bakatiguda have expressed fears that a big cat may be moving through the dense forests and riverbanks near their settlements.

However, forest officials have urged people not to jump to conclusions, saying it is too early to confirm whether the footprints belong to a tiger.

Officials explained that distinguishing tiger pugmarks from those of other wild animals based solely on footprints can be difficult, and further verification is underway.

While no official confirmation of tiger presence has been made so far, the Forest Department has stepped up monitoring in the suspected movement zone and is keeping a close watch on the situation.

Authorities have also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, avoid venturing alone into forested areas, and refrain from spreading or believing unverified information circulating on social media.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for increased surveillance and awareness in forest fringe areas, where occasional movement of wild animals can lead to heightened concern among local communities.
