Bhubaneswar, Sept. 19 (UDN): Textile major Sportking India is set to establish a greenfield spinning plant in Odisha’s Khordha district with an investment of around Rs 1,000 crore, a project expected to generate more than 6,000 direct employment opportunities.
The company plans to begin commercial operations at the facility in the third quarter of the 2026-27 financial year.
According to the project details, land for the proposed plant has already been acquired, while construction is currently in progress. Machinery procurement has also begun, with orders reportedly placed for the project.
The investment is expected to strengthen Odisha’s textile manufacturing ecosystem and expand the state’s capacity in the spinning and apparel value chain.
Textile Sector Gets Fresh Investment Push
Odisha has been positioning itself as a manufacturing destination for textile and apparel companies, supported by industrial infrastructure, policy incentives and access to transportation networks.
The state’s coastal location and proximity to major ports provide logistical advantages for manufacturers targeting markets in eastern India as well as export destinations.
Several textile-focused industrial parks are already operational or being developed across the state. These include textile parks at Bhuinpur, Kalibeti and Balianta in Khordha and Ramdaspur in Cuttack. Bhadrak has also emerged as a hub for technical textile projects.
The parks are designed to bring different stages of textile production—including spinning, processing and garment manufacturing—closer to one another. This is expected to help companies reduce transportation requirements and build more integrated supply chains.
Incentives Under State Textile Policy
The Odisha government has also introduced incentives aimed at attracting investments in apparel and technical textiles. Eligible projects can avail themselves of capital and employment-linked incentives under the state’s Apparel and Technical Textiles Policy.
The policy also provides employment-cost support for eligible workers during the initial years of commercial operations, subject to applicable conditions.
The proposed Sportking India facility is expected to add to the state’s industrial base while creating substantial employment opportunities once production begins.
