Transport Department to intensify e-Detection checks at toll gates; over 65 lakh vehicles reportedly without valid insurance

Bhubaneswar, Aug. 11 (UDN): Vehicle owners in Odisha may face strict action for driving without valid insurance as the State Transport Department steps up enforcement against uninsured vehicles.

Under the intensified crackdown, vehicles found operating without mandatory documents could be seized, while repeated violations may lead to cancellation of their Registration Certificates (RCs).

e-Detection System to Strengthen Checks

According to official sources, the Transport Department is set to intensify electronic checks at toll gates through the e-Detection system. The automated mechanism will verify key vehicle documents, including insurance, fitness certificates and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.

If a vehicle is found without valid documentation, an e-challan may be generated immediately. Authorities have also warned that habitual offenders could face further legal action for repeatedly violating vehicle and traffic regulations.

In serious or repeated cases, the department may initiate proceedings to cancel the vehicle’s registration and seize the vehicle.

Over 65 Lakh Vehicles Without Valid Insurance

The enforcement drive comes amid concerns over a large number of uninsured vehicles on Odisha roads. According to information available with the department, 65,73,633 vehicles in the state have reportedly been found without valid insurance.

Officials are now focusing on stronger monitoring to ensure vehicle owners comply with mandatory insurance and other statutory requirements.

The move is aimed at improving compliance, strengthening road safety and making enforcement more efficient through technology.

With automated verification being expanded, vehicle owners are advised to ensure that their insurance, fitness and PUC certificates remain valid to avoid penalties and possible enforcement action.
