Odisha STA Steps Up Traffic Enforcement, Issues Over 11,000 E-Challans in a Day

Bhubaneswar, Aug. 20 (UDN): The State Transport Authority (STA) has intensified its statewide road safety enforcement drive, issuing 11,011 e-challans in a single day for various traffic violations.

The enforcement action, carried out on Wednesday, also resulted in the seizure of 26 vehicles found violating traffic regulations, according to data released by the STA.

Helmet Violations Top the List

Riding without a helmet emerged as the most common violation, with 6,402 e-challans issued across the state.

Other major violations recorded during the drive included:

Overspeeding: 1,061 cases
Driving without valid insurance: 283 cases
Triple riding: 266 cases

The figures highlight the continued prevalence of traffic violations on roads across Odisha, particularly those involving basic safety requirements.

STA Urges Public to Follow Rules

The transport authority has appealed to motorists and other road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and prioritise road safety.

Officials said enforcement and monitoring will continue across the state, with action being taken against motorists found violating traffic rules.

The STA has urged commuters to wear helmets, follow speed limits, maintain valid vehicle documents and avoid practices such as triple riding to reduce the risk of road accidents and ensure safer journeys.
