Bhubaneswar, Sept. 25 (UDN): Odisha’s Fire & Emergency Services department has intensified rescue and relief operations as heavy rainfall continues across the state, with teams so far rescuing around 150 people and 10 animals and clearing fallen trees from nearly 500 locations, officials said on Friday.

Inspector General of Fire & Emergency Services and Home Guards Dr Umashankar Dash said specialised teams and modern high-capacity pumps have been deployed in several areas to tackle waterlogging, road blockages and other rain-related emergencies.

130 Locations Affected by Waterlogging

Waterlogging has emerged as a major challenge in several parts of Odisha, with around 130 locations reporting accumulation of rainwater.

According to Dash, water has entered houses and hospitals at some places, particularly in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The department is using high-powered pumps to drain water from affected areas and restore normal conditions.

Roads Cleared at Nearly 500 Spots

Fire Services personnel have also been carrying out road-clearance operations following reports of trees being uprooted by strong winds and heavy rain.

Teams have so far removed fallen trees from around 500 locations, helping facilitate the movement of vehicles and emergency services.

Teams Working Round the Clock

Dash said Fire & Emergency Services personnel have been working continuously on the ground for the past four days in response to the adverse weather conditions.

Rescue teams have been deployed along with specialised equipment to respond to emergencies and assist people in waterlogged and vulnerable areas.

Rescue, Dewatering Operations Continue

The department has maintained round-the-clock deployment of personnel across affected areas, with teams engaged in rescue, dewatering and road-clearance operations.

Officials said the response would continue as long as heavy rainfall persists, with available teams and equipment being mobilised according to the requirements reported from different locations.
