Bhubaneswar, Sept. 8 (UDN): The Odisha government has introduced a new safety manual aimed at helping factories and industrial establishments prevent workplace accidents, improve risk management and build a stronger culture of occupational safety across the State.
The ‘Surakshya Setu: Industrial Safety & Risk Management Manual’ was formally released on Tuesday by Forest, Environment & Climate Change and Labour & Employees’ State Insurance Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia.
Practical Guide For Industrial Safety
The manual has been designed as an accessible reference resource for workers, supervisors, safety professionals, managers and others involved in industrial operations.
It brings together practical guidance on key areas such as hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work practices, accident prevention and emergency preparedness.
The initiative seeks to make essential safety information readily available to industrial stakeholders and encourage the adoption of preventive measures at workplaces.
Push For Zero Industrial Accidents
Speaking at the launch, Minister Singkhuntia stressed the importance of collective participation in creating safer industrial workplaces.
He said wider dissemination of safety knowledge would help workers and industrial establishments identify unsafe conditions and practices and take corrective measures before accidents occur.
The minister expressed confidence that industries across Odisha would use the manual to strengthen workplace safety systems and contribute towards the State’s goal of reducing industrial accidents.
Building A Safety-Oriented Workplace Culture
Officials said the manual is expected to improve safety awareness among workers while encouraging industries to integrate risk prevention into their day-to-day operations.
Beyond providing technical guidance, the publication is aimed at promoting a workplace culture where safety becomes a shared responsibility among employees, supervisors, management and other stakeholders.
The initiative is part of the Labour & ESI Department’s broader efforts to promote safer and healthier working environments and strengthen mechanisms for preventing industrial accidents.
Officials Attend Release Ceremony
The launch programme was attended by Dodda Venkat Swamy, Principal Secretary, Labour & ESI Department; Indramani Tripathy, Labour Commissioner and Director of Factories & Boilers, Odisha; and Dr Malaya Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Director (Safety), among other officials.
The department said continued awareness, preventive action and active participation by all stakeholders would remain central to improving industrial safety standards across Odisha.
