Bhubaneswar, Aug. 31 (UDN): Odisha is set to experience another three days of heavy rainfall as a low-pressure system continues to influence weather conditions across the state, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placing three northern districts under a Red Alert.

The IMD has warned that Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore are likely to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.

Red, Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, has issued a Red Alert for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore, where intense rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours.

An Orange Alert has been sounded for Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Sundargarh, with some areas likely to receive rainfall exceeding 20 cm.

The remaining districts of Odisha have been placed under a Yellow Alert, with forecasts of light to moderate rain accompanied by isolated heavy spells.

RMC Director Manorama Mohanty said the low-pressure system is expected to keep weather conditions active across the state, with northern Odisha likely to bear the brunt of the rainfall.

Fresh Flood Concerns

The renewed downpour has raised concerns in several districts that had only recently witnessed receding floodwaters. Officials fear that sustained rainfall could lead to waterlogging, swelling rivers and renewed disruption in vulnerable areas.

The state administration has advised people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay alert, follow official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary movement while the heavy rain warning remains in force.
