Bhubaneswar, Aug. 16 (UDN): Odisha is set to witness another spell of intense rainfall as a weather system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue warnings across several districts.

Rainfall has already begun in parts of the state, with the system likely to bring heavy to very heavy rain over northern and coastal Odisha.

Heavy Rain Forecast for Three Districts

For Sunday, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has issued an orange warning for the three districts, while a yellow warning remains in place for several other parts of Odisha.

Gusty winds of around 30 to 40 kmph are also likely in some areas, according to the weather forecast.

Red Warning for Mayurbhanj, Balasore

The weather situation is expected to become more intense on Monday, with the IMD issuing a red warning for Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

An orange warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Kendrapara. Other districts have been placed under a yellow warning.

The warnings indicate the possibility of intense rainfall in vulnerable areas, raising concerns over waterlogging, localised flooding and disruption to normal life.

Low-Pressure System Under Watch

The developing weather system is associated with a cyclonic circulation over the north-west Bay of Bengal. The IMD is closely monitoring its movement and possible intensification.

With the system expected to remain active, residents in the warned districts have been advised to remain alert and follow updates from the weather authorities, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

The latest forecast comes as Odisha continues to experience the effects of a wet weather spell, with authorities keeping a close watch on rainfall and water levels across affected regions.
