Bhubaneswar, Oct. 4 (UDN): The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has stepped up its organisational preparations for the upcoming panchayat and urban local body elections, with senior leaders holding an extensive review meeting at the party’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar.

Newly appointed Odisha BJP in-charge D. Purandeswari, co-in-charge Swadesh Singh and state president Manmohan Samal took part in the meeting, which focused on strengthening the party organisation and expanding its presence at the grassroots.
Focus on Booth-Level Strength
The meeting reviewed the party’s ongoing organisational activities across Odisha, with emphasis on coordination among leaders and functionaries and strengthening the party’s grassroots network.
With local body elections approaching, the BJP leadership is expected to intensify its outreach to workers and assess the organisation’s preparedness across districts.
The discussions also covered ways to improve coordination between different levels of the party organisation and ensure that workers remain actively engaged on the ground.
Purandeswari Begins Odisha Assignment
The meeting assumed significance as it marked one of the first major organisational engagements of Purandeswari following her appointment as the BJP’s Odisha in-charge.
She has replaced Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, while Swadesh Singh has been appointed co-in-charge in place of Lata Usendi as part of the party’s recent organisational reshuffle.
During her two-day Odisha visit, Purandeswari is scheduled to interact with senior leaders and organisational functionaries and take stock of the party’s preparations.
‘Strengthening Organisation at Every Level’
Speaking about her new responsibility, Purandeswari said her priority would be to strengthen the BJP’s organisational structure and take the party forward across the state.
She also underlined the need for closer coordination between the government and the party organisation.
“Our responsibility is to further strengthen the BJP in Odisha. We will work to ensure better coordination between the government and the party while strengthening the organisation at every level,” she said.
Purandeswari also expressed confidence in the party’s workers and their ability to deliver during the upcoming elections.
Local Polls in Focus
The BJP’s latest organisational exercise comes at a crucial time as the party prepares for the forthcoming panchayat and urban local body elections.
A recent meeting of the state BJP executive committee had also discussed the party’s electoral roadmap and preparations for the local polls.
The leadership is now expected to intensify grassroots mobilisation, strengthen booth-level networks and maintain closer contact with party workers as the election process moves forward.
For the Odisha BJP, the immediate challenge is to translate its organisational expansion and electoral momentum into a strong performance in the state’s local body elections.
