Rourkela, Aug. 10 (UDN): Panic gripped Rourkela Railway Station on Monday morning after a newly constructed shed near the main entrance suddenly collapsed, damaging two vehicles parked underneath it.
According to reports, the structure gave way at around 9 am, sending debris crashing onto a car and a tempo stationed below. The sudden collapse caused alarm among passengers and others present at the railway station, many of whom immediately moved away from the area for safety.
The shed, reportedly constructed only a few months ago at an estimated cost of around Rs 1 crore, was intended to provide shelter from the sun and rain for passengers and people using the station’s entrance area.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. However, the collapse resulted in significant damage to the parked car and tempo.
The incident has raised questions over the quality of construction and structural safety of the recently built facility. Authorities are expected to assess the site and examine the circumstances that led to the sudden failure of the structure.
Further details regarding the cause of the collapse and possible action against those responsible are awaited.
