Ganjam, June 22 (UDN): In a shocking case of organised fraud, criminals allegedly drugged victims using spiked soft drinks and decamped with high-value perfume stock worth around ₹2 crore in Badaputi village under Ganjam district, police said.
According to preliminary reports, the accused reportedly lured the victims into consuming soft drinks laced with intoxicating substances, rendering them unconscious. Taking advantage of the situation, the miscreants allegedly escaped with a large consignment of premium perfumes.
The incident, described as a “movie-style fraud” by locals, has triggered concern in the area over rising cases of sophisticated criminal tactics being used in theft and cheating cases.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter and are examining the modus operandi of the accused. Efforts are underway to identify and trace those involved in the incident.
