Jharsuguda, June 29 (UDN):In a significant judgment in a case involving sexual assault on a minor, a special court in Jharsuguda has sentenced a man convicted of raping a minor girl to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years.

The court, after examining the evidence and testimonies presented during the trial, found the accused guilty of committing the offence under relevant provisions of the law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court directed the authorities to provide compensation of ₹8 lakh to the survivor under the victim compensation scheme. The financial assistance is intended to support the survivor’s rehabilitation and recovery.

The judgment has been welcomed as a strong message against crimes involving children and underscores the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual offences.

Officials associated with the case stated that stringent action against offenders is essential to deter such crimes and ensure the safety and protection of children in society.

The case was investigated by the local police, following which a charge sheet was filed, leading to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.
