Bhubaneswar, July 29 (UDN): The Odisha government has set in motion the process for the election of Mayors in the Sambalpur and Puri Municipal Corporations by issuing a draft notification proposing the reservation of the Mayor posts.

According to a notification issued by the Housing & Urban Development Department, the post of Mayor of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation has been proposed as Unreserved, while the Mayor of Puri Municipal Corporation has been proposed to be reserved for the Scheduled Caste (Woman) category.

The reservation proposal has been prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Odisha Municipal Corporation Act, 2003, paving the way for the conduct of mayoral elections in the two civic bodies.

The government has also invited objections and suggestions from the public regarding the proposed reservation. Interested individuals may submit their representations in writing to the Director of Municipal Administration within 15 days from the date of publication of the notification.

Officials said all objections and suggestions received during the stipulated period will be examined before the State government takes a final decision on the reservation of the Mayor posts.

The issuance of the draft reservation notification marks a key step in the election process for the two municipal corporations, with further notifications on the poll schedule expected after the reservation is finalized.
