Koraput, Aug. 17 (UDN): A long-standing dispute between two neighbouring families over pigs allegedly entering a residential compound turned violent in Koraput district on Sunday night, leaving one man dead and his father critically injured.
The incident occurred at Kamta village under Borigumma block. The deceased has been identified as Jagabandhu Kamar, while his father, Raghunath Kamar, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
According to reports, the accused, Sonu Jani, reared pigs at his residence. The animals allegedly entered the neighbouring Kamar family’s compound repeatedly, leading to frequent disputes between the two families.
Despite repeated objections from Raghunath, the matter reportedly remained unresolved. The neighbours had also clashed earlier over the issue, during which Sonu was allegedly accused of assaulting Raghunath and Jagabandhu. He was arrested in connection with that case and later released on bail.
On Sunday night, another confrontation reportedly broke out between the families. During the altercation, Sonu allegedly attacked Jagabandhu with a bhujali, causing a serious abdominal injury. When Raghunath attempted to intervene, he was also allegedly attacked.
Both father and son were rushed to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared Jagabandhu dead, while Raghunath was admitted for treatment in critical condition.
In a dramatic turn of events, the accused reportedly sustained a serious head injury after falling while allegedly attempting to flee the scene. He was subsequently taken into police custody and admitted to a hospital under police guard.
Following the incident, personnel from B. Singhpur Police Station reached the village and began an investigation. Police reportedly seized the suspected weapon used in the attack, while a forensic team examined the crime scene and collected scientific evidence.
Police have detained the accused as the investigation continues. The exact circumstances leading to the fatal attack are being examined.
