Jajpur, Aug. 16 (UDN): Tension prevailed in parts of Odisha’s Jajpur district after a dispute between residents of Biruhan and Sagadi villages under Panikoili police station escalated into a group clash on Saturday.

Police have arrested nine people in connection with the incident, while security has been tightened in the area to prevent any further escalation.

Minor Dispute Escalates

According to reports, the incident originated from a seemingly minor disagreement two days ago when water splashed onto another person while someone was washing his face.

An argument reportedly followed and gradually intensified, eventually leading to a confrontation between groups from the two neighbouring villages.

One person sustained minor injuries in the clash, police said.

Six Platoons Deployed

In view of the prevailing tension, the district administration has imposed Section 163 in the affected area.

Following directions from the Jajpur Superintendent of Police, police have deployed six platoons of force in and around the two villages. Personnel have also been conducting patrols and a flag march to reassure residents and maintain law and order.

Police said the situation was brought under control promptly after they received information about the clash.

Appeal for Peace

Additional Tehsildar, Byasanagar, Prasanta Puhan, said efforts were made to bring representatives from both sides together and resolve the dispute peacefully.

Jajpur Road SDPO Sarat Chandra Patra said several people from both sides had been arrested in connection with the incident and would be produced before a court.

Authorities have appealed to residents of both villages to maintain peace and refrain from actions that could aggravate the situation.

Police presence is expected to continue in the area as officials monitor the situation closely.
