Thieves break open almirah at Digapahandi residence while family is away; police launch probe with CCTV and sniffer dog

Digapahandi(Ganjam), Aug. 11 (UDN): A major burglary was reported in Odisha’s Ganjam district after unidentified thieves allegedly broke into the house of a retired teacher at Digapahandi and fled with ₹8 lakh in cash and gold and silver ornaments weighing around 30 tola.

The incident reportedly took place on Monday evening at the residence of retired teacher Bhaskar Sahu on Rajpur Road. According to the complaint filed with the police, the house was unoccupied when the burglars entered the premises and targeted an almirah.

The thieves allegedly forced open the almirah and escaped with the cash and jewellery kept inside. The family discovered the burglary after returning home and immediately informed the police.

Police Begin Investigation

Following the complaint, a team from Digapahandi police reached the spot and began investigating the incident. A sniffer dog was also deployed to help identify possible clues and track the suspects.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to establish the movements of the burglars and identify those involved in the crime.

Investigators are also collecting and examining other evidence from the crime scene. Efforts are underway to trace the accused and recover the stolen cash and jewellery.

The burglary has caused concern among local residents, particularly as the thieves allegedly managed to break into the house and carry out the operation when the occupants were away.

Police said the investigation is underway and further details are expected as more evidence comes to light.
