Sambalpur, Sept. 15 (UDN): A Ganesh Puja pandal was completely destroyed after a fire broke out in the Deheripali area of Sambalpur city on Monday, sparking panic among residents.

The blaze reportedly started after smoke was noticed emerging from the pandal. Within a short time, flames spread rapidly through the temporary structure, which had been decorated with cloth, thermocol and wooden materials.

On receiving information, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and began firefighting operations. Local residents also joined the efforts to bring the situation under control and prevent the flames from reaching nearby houses and commercial establishments.

The pandal was extensively damaged in the incident and was eventually reduced to ashes.

The exact cause of the fire remains unclear. A possible electrical short circuit is suspected to have triggered the blaze, though the cause is yet to be officially established.

Police and fire officials are expected to conduct an investigation to determine how the fire started and assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
