Rayagada, June 22 (UDN): Odisha Police on Saturday arrested four more persons in connection with the brutal assault on two NGO workers, including a girl student from New Delhi, in Rayagada district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 20.
The arrests were made as part of an intensified crackdown by the district police following the shocking incident that sparked widespread outrage across the state and beyond.
Police said efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the attack. Raids are being conducted at multiple locations, while investigators are examining evidence, including video footage and eyewitness accounts, to establish the sequence of events and ascertain the role of the accused.
The incident, which involved a violent mob attack on the NGO workers, has triggered a major political storm in Odisha. Opposition parties, including the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress, have strongly criticised the BJP government led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, questioning the state’s law and order situation.
The district administration has stepped up security measures in the area to prevent any further escalation of tension. Additional police personnel have been deployed, and the situation is being closely monitored.
Police officials have assured that stringent action will be taken against all those found involved in the incident, while the investigation remains underway.
