Bhubaneswar, May 29 (BNP): In a remarkable story of determination, discipline, and self-belief, Bubun Sahu, the son of a farmer and a serving police personnel, has secured Rank 1 in the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Odisha Civil Services (OCS) Examination 2024, emerging as an inspiration for aspirants across the state. His extraordinary journey—from a modest rural background to becoming an OCS topper—received recognition as the Chief Minister honoured him for his outstanding achievement.

Bubun’s dream of joining the civil services began during his time at Ravenshaw University, though he started serious preparation after the COVID-19 period. His success reflects years of perseverance and disciplined effort. Having secured Rank 40 in the previous OCS examination, Bubun remained focused and worked harder, ultimately securing the top position this year in one of Odisha’s most competitive examinations.
What makes his achievement more inspiring is that he prepared entirely through self-study while managing his responsibilities in the police department. Without attending any coaching institute, he dedicated nearly one-and-a-half years to preparation, studying consistently for four to five hours daily to cover the vast syllabus.
Sharing his perspective, Bubun said marks bring only temporary happiness, while true growth comes through continuous learning and disciplined preparation. He also described both police service and civil services as equally respectable professions, noting that while policing ensures law and order, civil services offer broader administrative exposure in sectors such as governance, healthcare, and public welfare.
Coming from a farming family, Bubun said his success has brought immense pride to his family, including his wife, and strengthened his determination to serve society in whichever role he is entrusted with. He also recalled facing questions related to public trust in policing, current affairs, and governance during the examination process.
Bubun Sahu’s rise from a farmer’s son and self-driven aspirant to OPSC OCS Rank 1 holder stands as a powerful reminder that perseverance, consistency, and clarity of purpose can turn aspirations into achievement.
