Cyclone Murashu Alert: Kandhamal Administration Launches Evacuation Drive in Vulnerable Hill Areas

G. Udayagiri, Nov 2 (UDN): With Cyclone Murashu approaching, the Kandhamal district administration has intensified its preparedness measures, launching evacuation efforts in vulnerable hilly areas to protect residents from the possible impact of the approaching storm.

People living in landslide-prone and other vulnerable locations are being shifted to nearby designated cyclone shelters as a precautionary measure.

As part of the evacuation initiative, officials visited Hastinapur village, situated at the foothills under Lingagada Gram Panchayat. Following instructions from block officials and the local Sarpanch, residents were preparing to move to the Lingagada cyclone shelter.

Villagers were seen packing essential clothes and belongings before leaving their homes for safer locations. While household items are being left behind, residents are also making arrangements to protect their cattle and goats from potential danger during the cyclone.

Farmers Worried About Crop Damage

Even as villagers cooperate with the evacuation process, local farmers are concerned about the possible destruction of standing crops due to heavy rainfall and strong winds associated with the cyclone.

For many farming families, the approaching storm has raised fears of significant agricultural losses, adding to the challenges posed by the emergency situation.

Evacuation Planned Across Four Blocks

The district administration is preparing to extend evacuation operations to vulnerable hilly pockets across several blocks, including G. Udayagiri, Raikia, Tikabali and Daringbadi.

The objective is to relocate residents from risk-prone areas to safer shelters before adverse weather conditions intensify.

Administration Appeals for Public Cooperation

The district administration has urged people living in vulnerable areas to cooperate with evacuation teams and strictly follow safety instructions issued by officials.

Residents have been advised to prioritise their safety and move to designated shelters without waiting for the weather situation to deteriorate.

With precautionary evacuation measures underway, the Kandhamal administration is focusing on minimising the risk to human life as the district prepares for the possible impact of Cyclone Murashu.
