Cuttack, Sept. 7 (UDN): A devastating fire broke out at Suanlo village under Niali police limits in Cuttack district on Monday, gutting four rooms of a house and killing 50 goats trapped inside a nearby cowshed.

According to reports, around 65 goats were kept in the shed when the fire broke out. While 15 goats managed to survive, they reportedly suffered burn injuries in the incident.

The blaze is believed to have originated in the cowshed and quickly spread towards the house. Smoke reportedly entered the kitchen, where an LPG cylinder subsequently caught fire, causing the flames to spread rapidly.

Four rooms of the house were completely destroyed in the fire, with household belongings reduced to ashes.

On being alerted, personnel from the Fire Services Department rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations to contain the blaze.

The house owner said the fire initially started in the cowshed before spreading to the kitchen. The subsequent involvement of the LPG cylinder reportedly intensified the situation, leaving little time to rescue the goats.

The incident has caused significant loss to the family, particularly due to the death of the goats, which were reportedly being reared as a source of livelihood.
