New Delhi, September 17: Sikkim Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang joined the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur Ji, at Ridge Park today for the launch of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026 on the auspicious occasion of Vishwakarma Puja.

The programme marked a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening sanitation, waste management and public health infrastructure across the State. It featured the Swachhata Pledge and the launch of the logo for the Clean Hill Himalayan Cities Initiative by the Urban Development Department.

Cheques were distributed to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Swachha Sheher Abhiyaan, while the Rural Development Department released the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Mobile Treatment Units (MTUs).

The Chief Minister also participated in the flagging-off ceremony for two ambulances for Soreng PHC and KGB School, along with 17 sanitation and waste-management vehicles. These included four MTUs for Gangtok, Namchi, Gyalshing and Mangan; two cesspool vehicles for Gangtok and Pakyong; and ten Resource Recovery Vehicles for various Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs).

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Tamang reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to creating cleaner, healthier and more sustainable communities across Sikkim. He called for collective participation in strengthening cleanliness and sanitation practices, emphasising the spirit of Team Sikkim.

The initiatives launched during the programme are expected to further enhance sanitation services and waste-management mechanisms across urban and rural areas of the State.
