Lucknow, Sep 23: Bharat Taxi has expanded its operations in Uttar Pradesh with a zero-commission model aimed at giving drivers greater control over their earnings, along with social security support of up to Rs 5 lakh.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the cooperative-led ride-hailing service in the state on Wednesday. The platform is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and is designed around a model in which drivers become members and stakeholders of the cooperative.
Under the model, drivers do not have to pay commission on fares earned through Bharat Taxi. This allows them to retain their ride earnings while participating in a platform built around cooperative ownership. Bharat Taxi’s zero-commission structure is already a core feature of its national operating model.
The initiative also places emphasis on the financial security of drivers. During the Uttar Pradesh launch, the Chief Minister said drivers joining the platform would receive social security coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh. The broader Bharat Taxi framework includes insurance and other welfare measures intended to strengthen long-term support for its driver partners.
Bharat Taxi is currently operating in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Prayagraj, with the platform also entering into agreements with institutions including Lucknow Airport, Lucknow Metro and Lucknow Police to support its operations.
The cooperative model is intended to give drivers a greater stake in the mobility platform rather than treating them only as service providers. The Union government has described Bharat Taxi as a driver-centric and people-centric alternative in which drivers participate as members and stakeholders while passengers get access to safe, reliable and affordable transport.
The expansion in Uttar Pradesh could also create additional livelihood opportunities in the state’s urban mobility sector. The Chief Minister said the platform has the potential to generate employment for a large number of young people as its operations expand.
With zero commission, cooperative participation and social security measures, Bharat Taxi is seeking to build a different model for app-based mobility—one that connects digital ride-hailing with the economic interests and welfare of drivers.
