The Minister said Odisha currently exports marine fish worth more than ₹5,000 crore annually, reflecting the growing strength of the state’s fisheries sector. He noted that marine fish production has increased by nearly 2 lakh metric tonnes over the past two years, contributing significantly to the state’s economy while improving the livelihood and income of fishing communities.

Highlighting the government’s focus on the blue economy, Mallik said sustained investments in fisheries infrastructure, deep-sea fishing, value addition and modern technology would further accelerate the sector’s growth. He added that the government’s long-term strategy aims to enhance production, boost exports and create greater employment opportunities in coastal regions.

“The fisheries sector has emerged as a key driver of Odisha’s economic growth. Our objective is to make Odisha a frontrunner in fish production by fully harnessing its marine resources and empowering fishermen through modern infrastructure and sustainable development,” the Minister said.

The roadmap forms part of the State Government’s broader vision to strengthen the blue economy, improve the socio-economic condition of fisherfolk and establish Odisha as a major centre for marine fisheries and seafood exports in India.
