Man Detained at Puri Srimandir for Allegedly Impersonating Army Officer

Puri, June 22 (UDN): A man was detained by security personnel after allegedly attempting to enter the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri by impersonating an Army officer on Sunday, officials said.

The accused has been identified as Upendra Purohit, reportedly hailing from Rajasthan. According to sources, he was found wearing an Army uniform while trying to enter the 12th-century shrine.

Security personnel of the temple’s Enforcement Squad became suspicious of his credentials during routine checks and intercepted him at the entry point. Upon verification, it was found that he was allegedly not a serving member of the armed forces and was impersonating an Army officer.

Following the initial inquiry, the individual was handed over to police for further questioning. The Singhadwar Police Station has detained the accused and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident.

Authorities are currently probing the motive behind his attempt to gain entry into the temple in a fake military uniform. Further investigation is underway.
