Bhubaneswar, June 12 (UDN): Renowned Prahlad Naatak artist and cultural icon Shri Simanchal Patra has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to the preservation and promotion of Odisha’s rich folk theatre heritage.
A legendary figure in the realm of Prahlad Naatak, one of India’s unique musical and masked folk theatre traditions, Shri Patra has played a pivotal role in nurturing, safeguarding and popularising the art form over several decades. Through his tireless efforts, he has helped keep this centuries-old cultural tradition alive and relevant for future generations.
Committed to the growth of the art, Shri Patra established numerous Akhadas (training centres) across the region to mentor and train young artists in the intricacies of Prahlad Naatak. His dedication has inspired countless performers and contributed significantly to the continuity of this vibrant folk theatre tradition.
What makes his achievement even more remarkable is his unwavering commitment to the cultural mission at the age of 98.
