Mysuru, Dec 9:The Indian Green Building Council part of the Confederation of Indian Industry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Mysore to strengthen green education and accelerate capacity-building for students and faculty across Karnataka. The collaboration aims to integrate sustainability-focused learning into mainstream higher education and develop industry-ready talent for India’s rapidly growing green building sector.

The MoU was formally signed at the University of Mysore campus by Prof. Lokanath N. K., Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore; Mr. Vinod Maroli, Chairman, IGBC Mysuru Chapter; and Mr. Srihari D, Co-Chairman, IGBC Mysuru Chapter. The ceremony was attended by senior dignitaries including Smt. M. K. Savitha, K.A.S., Registrar; Prof. N. Nagaraja, Director & Registrar (Evaluation); and IGBC leaders Mr. K. Sriram, Mr. Somashekhar, Prof. Shamsundar, Mr. Ramesh Kikkeri and Mr. Adithya Sajjan, reinforcing the strategic importance of this partnership.
Under the agreement, IGBC and the University of Mysore will jointly introduce specialised courses on Green Built Environment across affiliated colleges. The initiative will benefit students from civil, mechanical, electrical and architecture streams, offering modern curriculum, industry exposure and hands-on learning to prepare them for sustainability-led career paths. While IGBC will provide course material, faculty training and accreditation support, the University will integrate these programmes as elective or core subjects within its academic framework.
Speaking at the signing, Mr. Vinod Maroli said;
“This MoU is a milestone in building a sustainable future. By integrating green building concepts at the academic level, we aim to empower students to become future-ready professionals and leaders in India’s sustainability movement.”

Beyond course development, the partnership places strong emphasis on experiential learning through joint sustainability programmes, participation in IGBC’s flagship eventsincluding the Green Building Congress and Green Education Conclaveand opportunities for students to pursue the IGBC Accredited ProfessionalAssociate certification. Students will also gain networking exposure, access to expert sessions, site visits and volunteer roles within local IGBC chapter initiatives.
The MoU marks a significant step in IGBC’s mission to embed green concepts in higher education nationwide. With the University of Mysore being one of India’s most respected academic institutions, this collaboration paves the way for nurturing future sustainability champions who will contribute to a greener and more resilient built environment.
