Mumbai, 20th February 2025: JBCN International School, Mulund, took learning beyond the classroom with its high-energy Family Math Night on February 14, 2025. The event broke stereotypes around mathematics, proving its more than numbers – it’s music, art, logic, and real-world problem-solving.
From stage performances to hands-on challenges, Family Math Night shattered the idea of math as just formulas and equations. Learners kicked off the night by connecting math to everyday life, followed by a powerful folk dance performance. These performances illustrated how art and mathematics are intertwined with rhythmic patterns, geometric formations, and structured sequences revealing a deep connection to mathematical concepts like symmetry, sequencing, and ratios. Parijat Sarkar’s stand-up act brought humour to numbers, while a Furtados piano recital along with tabla maestro Varun Damle’s tabla rendition highlighted the deep link between math and rhythm. A live portrait sketching session showed how geometry shapes art in real time.
The night’s biggest highlight was an intense panel discussion featuring Parijat Sarkar, Varun Damle, and Patrick Dsouza, who shared how math fuels decision-making across professions. The energy kept building with a high-impact drum circle activity, and Chef Prashant Sabne from House of Bakers intrigued the audience by breaking down the precision behind baking into pure math.
“Family Math Night reflects our commitment to making learning engaging and experiential. It’s inspiring to see our learners, educators, and families come together to explore mathematics beyond the classroom and witness its real-world impact,” said Ms. Padma M. Negi, Principal of JBCN International School, Mulund.
Adding to the excitement, a tabla maestro demonstrated how LCM drives musical beats, while a hard-hitting Nukkad Natak used storytelling to bring math to life. Beyond the stage, the school turned into a full-fledged math playground with live classroom stations, escape rooms, and interactive challenges designed by learners across grades. Family Math Night was not merely an event, but a demonstration of JBCN’s commitment to innovative education making math a hands-on, mind-expanding adventure that demands attention.
“Having taught Math for several years, I have very often come across students who are afraid of math. This unique way of helping students understand the importance of math is definitely innovative. My favourites were the percussionists who created magic with math and music. Kudos to the JBCN Principal and the team,” said Mr Patrick Dsouza, Founder of Patrick100.
