Bhubaneswar, Oct 14 (UDN): One person was killed and around five others were reportedly left in critical condition after a series road accident on the Sum Hospital road near Bharatpur in Bhubaneswar late Tuesday night.

According to preliminary reports, a car rammed into another vehicle in the Bharatpur area, triggering a severe collision. The impact was so intense that the front portion of an SUV was badly damaged, leaving several people injured.

Following information about the accident, police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. The injured were shifted to a hospital, where around five people were reportedly undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Two Detained for Questioning

Police have detained two people in connection with the incident and are questioning them to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.

Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Saravana Vivek M said some of the injured had been hospitalised in critical condition. Investigators have also questioned eyewitnesses to piece together the sequence of events.

The DCP said the driver was assaulted by people at the scene before being rescued. He was subsequently detained and taken for medical treatment.

Police are examining whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The exact cause of the collision will be determined after questioning the driver and analysing other evidence gathered during the investigation.

Police Warn Against Traffic Violations

The incident has once again brought road safety concerns to the forefront in the state capital, where reckless driving can have serious consequences for motorists and other road users.

The DCP reiterated that traffic regulations would be enforced strictly and appealed to the public to follow road safety rules and cooperate with police personnel.
