Bhubaneswar, Sept. 24 (UDN): The Odisha Water Resources Department has intensified round-the-clock surveillance of dams, barrages and flood-control infrastructure across the state as heavy rainfall triggered by the deep depression continues to impact several districts.

Engineering officers and field staff have been deployed for night patrolling at vulnerable locations to closely monitor river levels, regulate water flow and ensure the safety of critical water infrastructure.

Padma Barrage Under Continuous Monitoring

At the Padma Barrage of Sorada Reservoir in Ganjam district, officials of Sorada Section-I conducted night inspections and operated barrage gates to regulate incoming water and divert it to the reservoir whenever required.

The department said such operations are being carried out continuously to manage water inflows and minimise the risk of flooding in downstream areas.

Vigil Along Vansadhara and Rushikulya

In Rayagada district, teams from the Gunupur Irrigation Sub-Division carried out night patrolling along the Vansadhara River at key locations, including the Sananadi Bridge, CWC Gauge Station, Haldia Sluice and Kotalguda village.

Officials also maintained surveillance around the Haldia Sluice to monitor river conditions and the performance of associated hydraulic structures.

Similar night patrols were conducted along the Left Flood Bank of the Rushikulya River, where engineers inspected embankments and other flood-protection infrastructure as part of preventive monitoring.

24×7 Monitoring Across State

With heavy rainfall continuing across parts of Odisha, the Water Resources Department has activated a 24×7 monitoring mechanism to track river behaviour and respond promptly to any emerging situation.

The intensified field-level vigilance comes as the state remains on high alert for rising river levels, waterlogging and possible flood-related emergencies in vulnerable districts.
