Kandhamal, Sept. 22 (UDN): Authorities in Kandhamal have decided to shut the Kalinga Ghat road for two days on September 23 and 24 as a precautionary measure amid a forecast of heavy rainfall under the influence of a depression over the Bay of Bengal.

The decision comes as intermittent rain and strong winds have been reported in the Bhanjanagar area, raising concerns over road safety in the hilly stretch.

Road To Be Sealed At Durgaprasad

As part of the precautionary measures, barricades will be installed at Durgaprasad and the road leading through Kalinga Ghat will remain sealed during the closure period.

The administration has taken the step considering the possibility of landslides in the ghat section during intense rainfall.

Residents Asked To Move To Safer Ground

People residing in low-lying areas of Durgaprasad have also been advised to shift to higher ground as a precaution against possible waterlogging or other rain-related risks.

The area had witnessed a landslide last year, adding to concerns among residents ahead of the latest spell of adverse weather.

Authorities have urged commuters and local residents to cooperate with the temporary road closure and avoid entering the restricted stretch until the weather situation improves.
