Jajpur, Sept. 22 (UDN): An elderly man was killed and two others, including a truck driver, suffered critical injuries after a speeding truck crashed into a stranded car on National Highway in Odisha’s Jajpur district late Monday night.

The accident occurred near Sathipur Pathapranta Chhak under the Panikoili police station limits when a car travelling from Bhadrak to Bhubaneswar reportedly developed a mechanical fault and came to a halt on the roadside.

According to preliminary reports, the occupants had stopped to repair the vehicle when a truck approaching from behind slammed into the stationary car with considerable force.

Victims Shifted To Hospital

Police personnel rushed to the scene and, with the help of local residents, rescued the injured before shifting them to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital.

One of the injured, an elderly man whose identity was yet to be confirmed, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The two other critically injured persons, including the truck driver, were later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.

Investigation Underway

Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether speed, visibility or other factors contributed to the collision with the stranded vehicle.
