Chandaka blast kills man, younger brother critically injured

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 16 (UDN): A man was killed and his younger brother critically injured after an explosive device went off in Mahul village under Chandaka police station limits on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Mohan Padhi, while his younger brother Madan Padhi sustained serious injuries in the explosion.

Explosion during alleged handling of bomb

According to preliminary reports, the brothers were allegedly involved in an attempt to throw an explosive device reportedly used for hunting wild boars when it detonated in Madan’s hand.

The incident is also believed to have followed an argument between the siblings over a mobile phone conversation. There are reports that alcohol consumption may have preceded the dispute, although the exact circumstances leading to the confrontation have not yet been established.

The blast left Mohan with severe injuries to his face. He succumbed to his injuries following the explosion.

Madan, who sustained critical wounds, was initially provided medical attention before being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.

Police probe source of explosive

Following the incident, Chandaka police reached Mahul village and began an investigation.

Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the blast, including how the explosive came into the brothers’ possession and its intended use.

Investigators are also working to establish the sequence of events that led to the explosion and determine the source of the explosive device.
