According to the Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation extending up to around 5.8 km above sea level over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas is likely to trigger the formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast by September 11.

The system is expected to bring widespread rainfall to several parts of Odisha, particularly the northern and southern districts.

Heavy Rain Expected Today

On September 9, heavy rainfall is likely in Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, while scattered showers may occur at several places across north and coastal Odisha.

Orange Warning for Two Districts

The weather is expected to become more intense on September 10, with Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. An Orange Warning has been issued for the two districts.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri.

South Odisha to Remain Under Watch

On September 11, Koraput is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, while several other districts in southern Odisha may also receive heavy showers.

Rainfall activity is expected to continue on September 12, particularly across Koraput and Malkangiri, with some areas of western Odisha also likely to experience rain.

The developing system has prompted authorities and residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as the weather pattern is expected to remain active through September 12.
