Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9 (UDN): The Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has intensified its crackdown on the illegal storage and black marketing of LPG cylinders, seizing 8,457 cylinders during raids conducted across the state on September 8.

According to an official notification, enforcement teams carried out inspections at multiple locations as part of the statewide drive aimed at preventing the unauthorised stockpiling and sale of domestic LPG cylinders.

47 FIRs Registered, Nine Arrested

The enforcement operation resulted in the registration of 47 FIRs under the Essential Commodities (EC) Act, while nine people were arrested for their alleged involvement in violations related to LPG cylinders.

Officials said action was taken against individuals found to be engaged in activities that could disrupt the legitimate supply and distribution of domestic cooking gas.

Strict Action Against Black Marketing

The department has warned that stringent legal action will continue against those involved in illegal LPG storage, hoarding or black marketing.

Authorities said the enforcement drive is aimed at protecting genuine consumers and ensuring that domestic LPG reaches eligible households through the authorised distribution system.

The latest crackdown is part of the Odisha government’s broader efforts to prevent black marketing of essential commodities and strengthen monitoring of the state’s LPG supply network.
