Nabarangpur, Aug. 30 (UDN): Veteran politician and former Odisha minister Dambaru Majhi passed away while undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital in Nabarangpur on Sunday. He was 86.

Majhi had reportedly been suffering from age-related health complications and was receiving treatment at the hospital. He breathed his last at around 5 am, according to reports.

A veteran figure in Odisha politics, Majhi served in the state government at different times between 1967 and 1990 and handled several ministerial portfolios during his long political career.

Five-Time MLA

Majhi was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly five times, representing constituencies in the Nabarangpur region.

He won from the Dabugaon Assembly constituency in 1967, 1971 and 1985. He also represented the Kodinga constituency after being elected in 1977 and 1980.

His decades-long association with electoral politics and public administration made him a prominent political figure in the undivided Nabarangpur region.

Leaders Mourn Veteran Politician

News of Majhi’s death has prompted condolences from political leaders, supporters and people associated with the region. Tributes have been pouring in as political circles remember his long contribution to public life in Odisha.

During a political career spanning several decades, Majhi remained closely associated with the people of the tribal-dominated Nabarangpur region and played a significant role in its political landscape.
