New Delhi, Aug 24: Heavy rain and thunderstorms disrupted flight operations in Delhi-NCR on Monday, forcing several Delhi-bound flights to divert and causing delays for passengers.

At least 15 flights were diverted from Indira Gandhi International Airport amid difficult weather conditions. Reports said the affected flights were diverted to airports including Jaipur, Chandigarh and Lucknow.

The disruption came as heavy showers lashed several parts of the national capital, with waterlogging and traffic congestion also reported across the city. The India Meteorological Department issued weather alerts and warned of further rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of Delhi.

Airlines including Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet issued advisories, asking passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. Travellers were also advised to allow additional time for their journey because rain-related traffic congestion could further delay airport travel.

The bad weather affected both arriving and departing flights, creating inconvenience for passengers and putting additional pressure on airport operations.

Airport and airline teams continued to monitor the situation and manage affected services as weather conditions changed.
