Bhubaneswar, Aug. 18 (UDN): A woman’s courage helped foil an alleged chain-snatching attempt near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred when the woman was out for her morning walk near the hospital. According to preliminary reports, two men riding a motorcycle allegedly approached her and attempted to snatch a gold chain from her neck.

Instead of surrendering, the woman reportedly resisted and grabbed hold of the suspected snatcher. Her resistance caused the man to lose his balance and fall from the moving motorcycle.

Hearing the commotion, nearby locals rushed to the spot and managed to overpower the suspect. They subsequently handed him over to the police.

A firearm was allegedly recovered from the suspect, adding another serious dimension to the incident. Police are verifying the weapon and investigating the circumstances surrounding its possession.

The second suspect reportedly managed to escape from the scene following the failed robbery attempt.

Police Launch Investigation

Khandagiri police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding accomplice.

Police are also questioning the detained suspect and verifying his identity and alleged criminal background. Preliminary information suggests that he may be from outside Odisha, though his identity and other details are yet to be officially confirmed.

The incident has drawn attention to the woman’s quick response, which not only thwarted the alleged chain-snatching attempt but also enabled locals to catch one of the suspects.
