Balasore, Aug. 17 (UDN): A tragic wall collapse claimed the lives of an elderly woman and her grandson while they were asleep at their home in Kapasuda village under the Jaleswar police station limits in Odisha’s Balasore district late Sunday night.
According to preliminary reports, a wall belonging to a neighbouring house, which was connected to the victims’ house, suddenly collapsed while the family was sleeping. The elderly woman and her grandson were buried under the debris and died in the incident.
The woman’s granddaughter also sustained serious injuries in the mishap. Locals and rescuers pulled her out from beneath the debris and rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment. She reportedly suffered an injury to her waist.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, with heavy rainfall in the region raising concerns over the safety of vulnerable structures.
