Balasore, Aug. 7 (UDN): After remaining shut for nearly five months, the Rupsa Jute Mill in Odisha’s Balasore district is set to restart operations on August 8, offering much-needed relief to more than 700 workers and their families.

The reopening follows a breakthrough in discussions between the mill management and the workers’ union. After several rounds of negotiations, both sides reached a consensus and signed a formal agreement, clearing the way for the resumption of production.

The mill had suspended operations on March 1 due to operational difficulties and a shortage of raw materials, leaving hundreds of workers without employment and affecting the local economy.

At a workers’ meeting held on the mill premises earlier this week, union leaders officially announced that production would restart from August 8. They appealed to employees to work together and maintain harmony to ensure the smooth functioning of the factory.

Union representatives also emphasised that cooperation between the management and workers would be crucial for the long-term stability and growth of the mill. They urged all stakeholders to prioritise productivity and safeguard the future of one of the region’s key industrial establishments.

The Rupsa Jute Mill provides employment to workers from Balasore, Mayurbhanj and nearby areas. Its reopening is expected to revive economic activity in the region and restore the livelihoods of hundreds of families who depend directly and indirectly on the unit.

With production set to resume, hopes have risen that the mill will regain stability and continue contributing to the state’s traditional jute industry.
