High-Level Eastern Regional Police Coordination Committee Meeting Held in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, July 21(UDN): In a significant move to bolster India’s internal security, the eastern states have resolved to deepen inter-state cooperation and adopt a more coordinated approach to combating narcotics trafficking, cybercrime, organised crime and Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).
The decision was taken at the high-level meeting of the Eastern Regional Police Coordination Committee (ERPCC) held in Bhubaneswar under the aegis of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The meeting was chaired by Odisha Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania and attended by the Directors General of Police of Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, along with senior officers from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Central Police Organisations (CPOs) and other central security agencies.
Welcoming the delegates, DGP Khurania highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in addressing today’s rapidly evolving security landscape. He said threats such as organised crime, cybercrime, narcotics trafficking, human trafficking and Left-Wing Extremism transcend state boundaries and therefore require a unified, intelligence-led and technology-driven response.
He emphasised that no state can effectively tackle these challenges in isolation and called for continuous intelligence sharing, seamless exchange of information, adoption of advanced technologies and stronger operational coordination among police forces and central agencies.
The day-long deliberations focused on several strategic issues, including monitoring and rehabilitation of surrendered Left-Wing Extremists, coordinated action against inter-state narcotics trafficking, strengthening real-time intelligence sharing to curb cybercrime, expediting the transfer and investigation of Zero FIRs, enhancing railway security and evolving a unified strategy to prevent illegal infiltration.
The participating states also discussed strengthening joint operations against inter-state criminal networks, improving policing in border districts and expanding technology-enabled policing to enhance intelligence gathering and operational efficiency.
Recognising the need for sustained collaboration, the participating states unanimously agreed to institutionalise regular coordination meetings to review progress, share best practices, assess emerging security threats and further strengthen operational synergy among state police forces and central agencies.
Concluding the meeting, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania expressed confidence that the decisions and recommendations emerging from the deliberations would significantly enhance inter-state cooperation, strengthen law enforcement capabilities and reinforce India’s internal security framework, particularly across the eastern region.
