The security arrangements were finalised following a high-level review meeting chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania, who said elaborate preparations have been made to manage the massive influx of devotees expected during the annual chariot festival of Lord Jagannath.

According to the DGP, the CAPF deployment will comprise personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF). They will work alongside Odisha Police to maintain law and order, strengthen crowd management and respond swiftly to any emergency.

Around 13,000 security personnel, including police officers and Home Guards, will be deployed across Puri to oversee crowd regulation, traffic management, route security and public assistance during the festival.

“Detailed deployment plans have already been prepared, with specific responsibilities assigned to officers at every level to ensure seamless coordination and effective response mechanisms,” Khurania said.

Recognising the importance of maritime security during the festival, authorities have also strengthened surveillance along the coast. The Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and Marine Police will jointly monitor the coastline and adjoining sea areas to prevent any security threats or untoward incidents.

The DGP expressed confidence that the extensive arrangements would ensure the safe conduct of the festival.

“We are fully prepared to ensure a secure, disciplined and peaceful Rath Yatra. With the blessings of Lord Jagannath and the cooperation of devotees, we are confident that the festival will be celebrated smoothly,” he said.

To facilitate the movement of pilgrims, the Railways has also planned special train services to and from Puri, enabling lakhs of devotees from across the country to participate in one of India’s largest religious gatherings.

The annual Rath Yatra, which draws millions of devotees and tourists from India and abroad, is one of Odisha’s most significant religious and cultural events, requiring extensive coordination among security agencies and civil administration every year.
