Mayurbhanj Teen Dies After Allegedly Consuming Poison Following Family Dispute Over Mobile Phone

Udala, July 3 (UDN): A 15-year-old girl allegedly died after consuming poison following a dispute over mobile phone use at Gagapal village under Rajabarhampur police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Thursday.

According to preliminary information, the girl’s family had reportedly objected to her frequent use of a mobile phone. Following repeated disagreements, family members allegedly broke the device in an attempt to discourage its use.

Police said the teenager is believed to have locked herself inside a room soon after the incident and allegedly consumed poison. When family members discovered her condition, they rushed her to the Udala Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment.

Despite medical efforts, she succumbed shortly after being admitted to the hospital.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of open communication and emotional support for adolescents while addressing concerns related to excessive mobile phone use.
